whovian birthday wishes
These were going to be Christmas wishes, before I heard we aren’t getting a Christmas special this year. My birthday is in a few days, so I may as well send these wishes out into space now.
I wish for a return to 13-episode seasons. Enough time for character arcs, plenty of smaller episodic stories among the bigger ones, and quieter moments amid the excitement. I'm tired of the rushed pace of modern tv, especially when slick special effects seem to come at the expense of storytelling. Doctor Who has never needed a huge budget or flashy effects; bring on the bubble wrap.
I wish for the tying up of loose ends (like Susan’s reappearance and what happened to the Rogue). We especially need closure for Ruby and Belinda. The timeline they’re in still feels off, and Ruby never even got to say goodbye to Fifteen.
Most of all, I wish for whimsy, silliness, joy, and fun… and for writers who understand that those things are essential to Doctor Who. I'd be devastated if the show ended up in the hands of someone who tries to turn it grimdark or "age it up" into one hundred percent Very Mature Drama, the way some random guys on reddit seem to think it should be. At its best, Doctor Who has two hearts working together: one light, one dark, both kind and ultimately full of hope.
