manatee's wake

ten pointless facts about me

This post is part of a blog title exchange challenge. I swapped titles with Zachary Kai. The questions were devised by Forking Mad.

Do you floss your teeth?

Yes. Maybe not as often as I should, but I try to floss them several times a week.

Tea, coffee, or water?

Water. Evian water that's been slightly chilled in the freezer is a delight on hot days. I've tried to like tea, but so far I just... don't. Iced or frozen coffees are a nice treat, but I've never been a fan of hot coffee.

Footwear preference?

My everyday shoes are Skechers sneakers, one of the few brands that usually don't hurt my wide, flat feet. Formal or semi-formal shoes can be a challenge. Most women's dress shoes (besides Mary Janes, which are adorable) aren't to my taste, and the smallest men's shoe most stores carry is a bit too big for me. As I've said before, being a dapper manatee is harder than it should be.

Favorite dessert?

It's difficult to choose just one. Warm brownie with vanilla ice cream is a classic. Really, there are very few warm desserts that can't be improved by a scoop of vanilla ice cream. And I've loved mint ice cream since I was tiny.

The first thing you do when you wake up?

Brush my teeth and use the bathroom... then get right back into bed to enjoy the coziness a while longer.

Age you'd like to stick to?

That's a tough one. Any year where my mental health didn't hit rock bottom is a good one. My university years were (mostly) good years: surrounded by friends, enjoying campus life, and doing interesting projects.

How many hats do you own? Four, I think. I have a black cadet cap with a pocket on the side (yay pockets!). Used to have an olive green one too, but left it on a bench in Bradenton, FL the summer I worked with Snooty. I also have two winter beanies, and a frog hat like the one in the "If I Were a Fish" video. Sadly the frog hat is a little too snug, so I rarely wear it. I love newsboy caps but don't own one yet.

Describe the last photo you took.

A notebook page where I wrote down some code and tried to make it less daunting to my squidgy brain by drawing colored boxes around different sections. That's not very exciting. I wish my latest photo were of something more alive.

Worst TV show.

What Not to Wear. It was often mean-spirited, and everyone looked identically boring at the end. I still feel a bit angry on behalf of that one gamer girl.

As a child, what was your aspiration for adulthood?

In elementary school I vaguely thought I might like to be a veterinarian, mainly because I had to pick something for the class career fair project. In middle school it was hard to think about the future; I didn't see many examples of what I could do. I only knew I liked art and games, and didn't want to end up miserable. In high school I wanted to be a professor studying classic children's literature. Sixteen-year-old me would be happy that I ended up working in a library, and I think twelve-year-old me would appreciate that I'm trying to learn how to make games.
