battles are the least interesting thing about pokémon
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the mainline Pokémon games. Raising a team of Pokémon and watching them get stronger is fun. But some of my favorite Pokémon media doesn't involve battling at all, or isn't centered on it. As a kid, I played with my Pokémon toys almost as if they were Barbies or My Little Ponies. They had their own clubhouse. They had friends and crushes. They went to concerts and took road trips together. Sometimes they went on long journeys to save the world (often sailing through the sky on the back of a jumbo Lisa Frank cat plushie), but the journey itself was the point, and I never really cared reaching the destination. I often enjoyed the slice-of-life parts of the Pokémon anime more than I enjoyed the battles (did there really need to be one in every episode)?
It's more interesting to see what Pokémon are like when they aren't fighting. Observing and photographing creatures in New Pokémon Snap made me nostalgic for my field biology classes. I love Pokémon Concierge because it shows a less competitive side of the Pokémon world (and because I totally want to pet those fuzzy stop-motion Pokémon). If a Pokémon Concierge sim existed, I'd play it for sure.
I'd also like to see more RPGs set in a world similar to the Mystery Dungeon games, where the Pokémon speak to each other and have their own towns and communities. A Hamtaro-like game where Pokémon get up to light-hearted adventures while their humans aren't around (or maybe on a secluded island that humans have never discovered) has the potential to be delightful. And a game where you build a garden or nature preserve and add features or items to attract different Pokémon species could be very relaxing.
There are so many possibilities. Not every Pokémon game has to be about "wanting to be the very best". Some games can be about Pokémon who just want to be.
